The R230 cylindrical grinder combines a PC-based control with manual handwheel operation for machining short runs of different workpieces. It is a good choice for introducing machinists with little CNC experience to computerized controls and as a low-cost alternative to full CNC grinding. The grinder's PC-based control features a teaching/playback function that replaces complex programming and tedious debugging necessary for CNC operations. In teaching mode, the unit memorizes the handwheel movements made by the operator when creating the grinding sequence for the first workpiece in a lot. The sequence is completely documented by the R230's control and can be reviewed by the operator to make any edits. Stored in the control's memory, the program can be accessed to grind the remaining workpieces in the lot, exactly as the first workpiece was manually run. The control stores up to 30 grinding applications and allows 10 grinding steps per application.
